A QR code that stays under your control
What does a QR code actually store?
A QR code is an image carrying data: plain text, a full website address or Wi-Fi settings. This tool writes your content directly into the image. It does not replace it with a link to an ARWIVO server. A static code has no expiry date of its own. Its website address or Wi-Fi password may stop working, however. If the password changes, create a new code.
Create a code step by step
Choose text, website address or Wi-Fi. Enter a full link starting with https:// or http://. For Wi-Fi, enter the exact SSID, security type and password. Select hidden network only if your router is configured that way. Create the code and save the PNG. Before sharing it, read it using a second device and compare the result with your intended content.
Example: a guest Wi-Fi code
For an example network named Home-Guests, choose WPA/WPA2 and enter its password. A compatible phone can offer to connect, but the confirmation depends on its operating system. ARWIVO does not connect the phone automatically. Use a separate guest network rather than sharing your main network. The QR code contains the password in readable form. Do not publish it if the network is meant to stay private.
Read from a photo or camera
Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MB, or start the camera. Permission is needed only for scanning. The web camera requires HTTPS and a compatible browser. If it is unavailable, choose a photo. Use sharp focus, even light and the whole code including its white margin. We read one code per attempt. Processing is local; selecting a cloud image may require the provider to download it first.
Check the domain before opening
Decoded text is displayed without executing it. An open button appears only for full HTTP(S) addresses without login credentials. This restriction does not protect against every harmful website. Check the complete domain, misspellings and unusual characters. HTTPS does not prove that a site's owner is trustworthy. An unfamiliar sticker may lead to a fake payment page or login form.
Print a readable code
The export is 1024 × 1024 pixels with black modules, a white background, M error correction and a four-module white margin. Do not crop the margin or place a logo over the code. Preserve its proportions and sharp edges. There is no universally guaranteed physical size: content length, print quality and scanning distance all matter. Test the printed code in its intended location.
Limits and device storage
The generator accepts up to 1000 UTF-8 bytes. Accented letters and emoji may use several bytes. Longer content produces denser codes; shorten it if the reading check fails. Wi-Fi uses the convention for WPA/WPA2, WEP and open networks. WEP is obsolete; WPA3-only and enterprise networks are not guaranteed. The library holds up to 50 manually saved codes without synchronization. Clearing app or browser data removes the library. Your exported files remain in the chosen location.
Common questions
Will the code expire? Not because of ARWIVO: there is no redirect service or subscription. Can I change a printed code? No, its data requires a new image. You can change content on your own website while keeping its address. Do I need internet? Android core functions work offline. The website must first load. QR processing stays local, while opening a destination or selecting a cloud file may need a connection.
