Positions to mark
A single element with specified margins has no gap between elements.
Schematic drawing, not a full-size template. Above 24 elements, only the first and last four are drawn; the table includes every element.
The centre is a reference mark. Check actual fixing locations before drilling.

From measuring to marking
- Measure the available width and choose a unit. All dimensions refer to the same horizontal line.
- Enter the number and equal width of elements. For centre lines only, enter width 0.
- Choose specified margins or equal clear gaps, including the gaps at both ends.
- Measure every mark from the same left edge. Do not keep adding rounded gaps.
Clear gap versus centre spacing
Two pictures, each 200 mm wide, with a 100 mm clear gap have centres 300 mm apart. A clear gap is between the edges; centre spacing also includes one element width.
How it is calculated
Specified margins, n > 1: gap = (L − a − b − n × w) / (n − 1). Equal gaps: gap = (L − n × w) / (n + 1). L is the available width, w the element width, a and b the margins. Positions are calculated from the origin before rounding.
Worked examples
- 1200 mm wall, 3 pictures each 200 mm wide, 100 mm margins: clear gaps of 200 mm. Left edges: 100, 500, 900 mm; centres: 200, 600, 1000 mm.
- 1000 mm width, 4 elements each 100 mm wide, equal clear gaps: 120 mm. Left edges: 120, 340, 560, 780 mm.
- One 200 mm element in 1000 mm: equal gaps centre it with 400 mm margins. Specified margins of 300 and 500 mm fit; margins of 300 and 300 mm conflict.
Check before drilling
- The tool assumes equal-width elements arranged in a single line. It does not design fixings or structures.
- Allow for actual dimensions, installation clearance, uneven walls and measuring accuracy. Zero gap means touching elements or coinciding points.
- Check the wall, hidden services and manufacturer instructions before drilling. The centre of a picture need not be its hanging point.
